What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classrooms
  • we use formative assessment tools to monitor student growth and provide tasks at the correct level.
  • identify students who have specific talents and areas of interest to challenge and extend them.
  • we provide opportunities for students to apply their learning to enrich their skills and deepen their understanding of content.
  • provide a safe learning environment that encourages confidence, risk-taking and perseverance.
  • use flexible grouping and partner work to promote collaboration.

There are many different activities that students with high potential and gifts are selected to participate in. Some of these include:

  • debating
  • public speaking
  • dance groups
  • band, string, recorder and trash drum ensembles
  • choir
  • leadership - SRC, peer mentors, student leadership team, Peace Keepers
  • creative writing - WriteOn competition, Poetry Slam
  • Premier's Spelling Bee
  • Maths Explorer and Maths Olympiad
  • Inter School Sport teams
